The project

Water is, among many other things, a crucial economic asset and its shortage suppose a limiting factor for the development of industrial activities, including those linked to the urban water cycle or those that combine the municipal water supply systems with own resources. Since availability of water is uncertain, its proper management should consider periods of scarcity and periods of drought, floods, water quality and adaptation to climate change. All these aspects are addressed from the concept of water security management, which has been considered by the industrial sector as a first order challenge. This is a transversal challenge to the sector and especially concerns those industries where water is a key factor in manufacturing and supply chain.
INDRISK project aims to increase water security of the industry both in quantity and quality, improving the levels of resilience against structural water shortages and drought events, much more in the climate change adaptation necessity which amplifies the problems if no action is taken
INDRISK is formed by a consortium of four entities:
  • ZINNAE (Coordinator)
  • Universidad de Zaragoza – Grupo HOWLAB
Innovative Business Associations by MINCOTUR


This project received funding support under the “Innovative Business Associations” framework (AEIs). This program supports to strenghten innovation clusters and is also alligned with the european strategy for competitiveness through innovation.
Only clusters from the National Registry of Clusters can benefit from this funding call. These are clusters with innovation potential and
critical mass. ZINNAE is member of this Registry since 2010.


Project Objectives


The management digital platform (IoT) based on sensors and indicator will enable:

  • Define a measurement of the warning levels in order to initiate the actuation protocols related to water management (consumption reducing policies, restrictions, etc.)
  • Develop risk management indicators, considering a real environment in a facility located in Aragón.
  • Improving the effectiveness in water management and thus the competitiveness of the industries, especially those that are large consumers of water.
  • Water quality improvement.
  • Provide criteria for water reuse.
  • Promote strategic intelligence of the company by providing a tool which eases a suitable water management.


Work Packages


The project is coordinated by ZINNAE and includes the folowing work packages:

  • PT1 – Project management and dissemination
  • PT2 – Defining Scenarios
  • PT3 – RISK Management Indicators / Pilot study
  • PT4 – Risk evaluation and response
  • PT5 – Digital platform

The project was launched in September 2018 and will be developed until March 2019.
