National R&D Plan project Clogging-Inlets.

The FACSA delegation in Aragon is collaborating with the Polytechnic University School of La Almunia (EUPLA), attached to the University of Zaragoza, in the National R&D Plan project “Clogging-Inlets”. This project is being developed by the EUPLA research group GIHA (Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering Research Group), together with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
On 4 October, a follow-up meeting was held at the EUPLA facilities for this project, the objective of which is to characterise sediment and pollution associated with surface runoff in urban areas.
For this purpose, the sewerage network of the municipality of La Almunia has been modelled by subjecting the network to different design rainfall, which allows us to determine the behaviour of the sewerage network and the urban centre in different possible scenarios of rainfall and different rainfall intensities, which translates into being able to ascertain the evacuation capacity of the network and those possible areas susceptible to flooding, and the degree to which they are affected.
At this meeting, the heads of EUPLA’s GIHA presented the milestones reached in the development of the project to the FACSA delegate José Ramón Rada, and F. Javier Salas, Head of the La Almunia de Doña Godina supply service.
In this way, FACSA collaborates in the training of future hydraulic engineering professionals, collaborating with technical information extracted from real scenarios.
The results of the project can be used to improve the operation of the sewerage network and to develop a better planning of actions, thanks to the fact that it is possible to detect those geographical points where, depending on the precipitation produced, the sewerage network could become loaded, causing flooded areas.
