WATER4ALL

Water security for the planet

Project information

The Water4All Partnership – Water Security for the Planet – is a funding programme for freshwater scientific research. It aims to address water challenges to tackle climate change, help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and boost EU competitiveness and growth.

Water4All’s objective is to enable water security on a large scale and in the long term. Its goal is also to address water issues in a holistic framework.

Partners

Water4All brings together a large and cohesive group of 90 partners from 33 countries in the European Union and beyond. This consortium brings together partners from the entire water Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) chain.

Grants

It is co-funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme (a key research and innovation funding programme). The duration of the Partnership is seven years from 2022.

Objectives

Water4All’s objective is to enable water security on a large scale and in the long term. Its goal is also to address water issues in a holistic framework.

All forms of life on Earth need water. All human activities run on this resource. Water is part of our daily lives. It is also integrated into urban and rural landscapes. It is one of the most valuable elements we share with plants and animals. These simple facts must be taken into account to understand the ambition of Water4All. This resource is weakening in many places due to climate change and human habits. We know that we can improve the way we use water. We all have a role to play and especially the scientific research community.

Scientific research is at the heart of the Partnership, as it is a powerful tool for improving knowledge on the preservation, restoration and management of this essential resource. International cooperation is also necessary, as water has no borders on Earth and flows from one country to another.

ZINNAE

ZINNAE participates in Pillar 0-Partnership Coordination and Management, Pillar C-Science-Policy-End-Users Interface working on issues of support to entrepreneurs in the water sector and the development of talent and professional training, and Pillar D-Demonstration Activities working on the promotion of demonstration spaces for innovative solutions.

ZINNAE’s role in Water4all is reinforced by its participation in 2 European initiatives interlinked with the objectives of Water4all:

1- ZINNAE coordinates CircInWater, the Smart Water Eurocluster, which aims to drive the triple transition of European industrial ecosystems by developing and implementing a long-term strategy supporting measures for the lack of smart water solutions in the most urgent and vulnerable industries.
2- ZINNAE participates in the Smart Specialisation Strategy Platform for Industrial Modernisation Water Smart Territories.

Water-Oriented Living Labs (WOLLs)

In addition, ZINNAE has been identified as one of the ‘Water-Oriented Living Labs’ (WOLLs) to drive the transition to a water-smart society. This concept was developed by the organisation Water Europe. Water-Oriented Living Labs, as a principal component of the Water4All initiative, are based on the Quadruple Helix principle, embodying a collaborative framework involving government, industry, academia and civil society. This principle underlines the holistic approach of the WOLL initiatives, which aim to address complex water challenges through multi-stakeholder participation, innovation and co-creation.
