CONFERENCE IN CASPE ON OPTIMISATION OF RESOURCES IN A CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CRISIS
On 4th June, a Conference on resource optimisation in the context of the climate crisis was held in Caspe.
The institutional opening was carried out by the Mayoress of Caspe, who highlighted the importance of these initiatives and their contribution to environmental sustainability, and was attended by representatives of various entities, such as the Government of Aragon, the University of Zaragoza, UPA, the Irrigation Communities and ZINNAE.
The objectives and results achieved by two projects supported by the Government of Aragon through the Rural Development Programme were presented: REURIEGO-Demostración de tecnologías de Reutilización de aguas para riego en diferentes entornos (REURIEGO-Demonstration of water reuse technologies for irrigation in different environments), and INVASHIELD-Precisión 4.0 para la defensa de infraestructuras de riego frente a especies invasoras tradicionales y emergentes (INVASHIELD-Precision 4.0 for defending irrigation infrastructure against traditional and emerging invasive species). These projects have been led by our technological partners GEEZAR SOLUCIONES and VELABER CONSULTING, with the collaboration of .
The REURIEGO project has turned the municipality of Caspe into an example of the reuse of filter washing water from irrigation installations. The aim is to promote efficient water management on farms, with the consequent saving of this resource and the associated energy. Losses of water (already pumped) in the washing of filters in drip installations can be around 10%.
The event ended with a visit to the pilot plant, where a prototype has been designed and built for the purification and reuse of water from the washing of filters of the Campés Irrigation Community, with a lamellar decantation base, which allows the separation of treated water from its solids content, with great potential for different uses.
On the other hand, the INVASHIELD project has presented the best strategies for the defence of irrigation infrastructures against invasive species, through precision agriculture, smart dosing and the use of more sustainable treatments.
