Company description

The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro is the river basin organisation responsible for water management in the Ebro basin, created in 1926. It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of the Government of Spain.

Both the Consolidated Text of the Water Law, as well as the regulations that develop it, determine that the functions of the river basin organisations are the following functions:

  • The elaboration of the river basin Hydrological Plan and its monitoring and revision.
  • The administration and control of the hydraulic public domain.
  • The administration and control of uses of general interest or affecting more than one Autonomous Community.
  • The project, construction and operation of the works are carried out with charge to the Agency’s funds and those entrusted to it by the State.
  • Those are deriving from the Agreements with the Autonomous Communities, Local Corporations and other public or private Entities, or those subscribed with individuals.

The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro has been the leading party in the project and execution of the new water supply to Zaragoza and its surroundings from the Yesa reservoir, which means a radical change in the quality of the water from which the city can be supplied.
