In 2025, a Collaboration Agreement has been signed between the Government of Aragón, the Aragonese Water Institute, and ZINNAE regarding the evaluation and accreditation of professional competencies acquired through work experience or non-formal manners, specifically related to water treatment and maintenance.

This agreement aligns with the regulations established by Royal Decree 3/2023, which sets out the technical and health criteria for drinking water quality, its control, and supply. It also defines the qualifications that workers in water treatment infrastructures must acquire by 2030.

As a result, more than 1,000 workers in the water sector will have the opportunity to obtain an official certificate based on their work experience after undergoing a competency accreditation process lasting up to six months. The recognised professional categories include: “Assembly and maintenance of water networks” and “Operations in water treatment plants”
